LMU Important Dates 2026 to 27 for Parents

Fall 2026 at a glance

The registrar's Fall 2026 calendar runs from August 31 to December 18. Instruction began Monday, August 31, with Labor Day off on September 7. LMU does not take a full fall break week. The only October pause is Autumn Day, Friday, October 9, which gives your student a three day weekend.

Thanksgiving Holidays cover Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 27. Student Housing's FAQ says residence halls stay open over university holidays other than winter break, so a student who stays on campus for Thanksgiving keeps their room.

Fall instruction ends Friday, December 11. Final examinations run Monday, December 14 through Friday, December 18, and faculty submit grades by December 23.

Winter break and the hall closing rule

Residence halls and suite style buildings close for winter break. Student Housing lists the 2026 to 27 winter break closing as Friday, December 18, and the spring opening as Saturday, January 9, 2027. The Housing FAQ says students must leave within 24 hours of their last final or by 5:00 p.m., whichever comes first, so a student whose last exam is early in finals week may need to leave before December 18. Apartments stay open. Check your student's exam schedule before you book a flight home.

Students with no alternative accommodations can apply for winter break housing through the Student Housing Portal, and Housing notes it is not guaranteed. Last year the application opened in late October with a priority deadline in late November.

Spring 2027

Spring instruction begins Monday, January 11, 2027, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 18) is a day off. Spring Break Holidays are Monday, March 1 to Friday, March 5. Three weeks later come the Easter Holidays, Wednesday, March 24 to Friday, March 26, and Farmworkers Day closes classes on Wednesday, March 31. If your student flies home for only one of these, the March 1 week is the longer window.

Spring instruction ends Tuesday, May 4, followed by a Reading Day on May 5. Final examinations run Thursday, May 6 through Wednesday, May 12.

Commencement weekend

The registrar lists graduation events on Thursday, May 13 and Friday, May 14, then Commencement Day 1 on Saturday, May 15 and Commencement Day 2 on Sunday, May 16, 2027. Confirm with your student which day their ceremony falls on before you book.

Family Weekend booking tip

Family Weekend 2026 runs Wednesday, October 21 to Sunday, October 25, with most events starting mid day Thursday, October 22. Registration costs $90 through October 12 and $100 from October 13 to 24. LMU's hotel rates for 2026 are listed on its local hotels page, and the Family Weekend visit page suggests calling the hotel directly to ask for the university rate. One Marina del Rey property on that list notes limited availability, so book as soon as your plans are firm.

What to double check

The registrar notes that its calendars represent the university's best judgment, so recheck dates before you pay for anything that cannot be refunded. For spring 2027, Student Housing lists Wednesday, May 12 as the spring closing, and students must move out within 24 hours after their last final or by 5 p.m., whichever comes first. Last spring, graduating seniors had a later deadline (8 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026), but the 2027 senior rule had not been posted when we checked. Watch the Student Housing move out page for updates.
