A campus on the coast, next to Isla Vista
UC Santa Barbara's mailing address reads Santa Barbara, CA 93106, but the campus sits on its own stretch of coast, with lagoon and ocean views and Isla Vista right next door. Fall 2026 move in covered these halls: Anacapa and Santa Cruz (check in at Lagoon Road), San Miguel and San Nicolas (check in on the lawn between them), San Rafael and Manzanita Village (Parking Lot 23), and Santa Catalina in Isla Vista (Parking Lot 60 on Storke Road).
Getting here from far away
Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) is the closest commercial airport, and the Route 217 freeway spur signed Airport/UCSB runs straight to the Henley Gate entrance. If SBA fares do not work from your home city, LAX is the main alternative. UCSB's own family weekend travel page points parents to the Santa Barbara Airbus, which it says makes 8 daily trips to and from LAX.
Quarters, not semesters
UCSB splits the year into fall, winter and spring quarters. For 2026 to 27, fall instruction starts Thursday, Sept 24, and fall finals end Dec 11. Winter runs Jan 4 to Mar 19 with finals, and spring runs Mar 29 to June 11. That last date matters for summer plans: your student may still be sitting exams in the second week of June, later than friends on semester schedules.
Family weekend and the parent office
Parents & Family Weekend 2026 is Friday and Saturday, Nov 6 and 7. Registration is online only and closes Oct 29 at 5pm Pacific. Gaucho Parents & Families is in 2160 Student Resource Building and answers email at ucsbparents@sa.ucsb.edu. Its Gaucho Parents Newsletter is a simple way to keep up with campus news.
One thing to know early: Campus Housing reminds parents that once students are legal adults, a federal privacy law (FERPA) governs how UCSB handles their records, and it encourages families to let the student be the primary source of information.

When do fall 2026 classes start at UCSB?
Instruction begins Thursday, Sept 24, 2026. Fall Quarter officially opens Sept 20, and residence hall move in runs Sept 18 to 20.
