Fall 2026 move in, by college

These dates have passed for this year, but they show how each college runs its arrival, and the pattern tends to repeat.

• Pomona: international students Wednesday, Aug 19; new students Saturday, Aug 22, 8:00 to 10:30 a.m.; orientation Aug 23 to 29.
• Pitzer: new student move in and Family Orientation Saturday, Aug 22; orientation through Aug 30; returning students Aug 29 to 30.
• CMC: international students Thursday, Aug 20; new students Sunday, Aug 23; returning students Aug 29 to 30, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Scripps: international students Aug 19 to 20, first gen students Aug 21, all other new students Aug 25, orientation Aug 25 to 30.
• Harvey Mudd: halls open for returning students Saturday, Aug 29.

What check in looks like

At Pomona, cars line up on Columbia Avenue in front of the South Parking Garage. Families get a color coded windshield card, show ID, and the student must be in the car. Check in is staggered alphabetically by last name in 30 minute windows starting at 8:00 a.m. Student leaders unload your car, one driver stays with it, and once it is empty you move it to the Metrolink lot or the TCCS lot. Families register at the Family Orientation tent at Harwood Hall.

CMC checks students in by quad. North Quad (Appleby, Boswell, Green, Wohlford, Kendry) uses the small Bauer lot at 500 E. 9th St. Mid Quad (Beckett, Benson, Berger, Crown, Phillips, Valach) checks in on the grass between Crown and Benson at 600 Amherst Ave. South Quad (Marks, Auen, Stark, Fawcett) uses Gould Plaza at 497 E. 6th St. CMC gives drivers set entry routes to keep traffic moving, and it asks families not to ship packages to the Story House mailroom before Aug 15.

At Harvey Mudd, every residence hall has built in air conditioning. South, Case, Drinkward and Linde have communal kitchens, and the suites in Sontag all have their own kitchens.

Move out in May 2027

• Pomona: halls close at noon Monday, May 17. In 2026 Pomona split the deadline, noon on May 16 for non graduating students and May 18 for graduates, so watch for this year's notice. Keys go back in a completed check out envelope; last spring's fines were $25 an hour for late departure, $150 for a missing key and at least $50 for trash left behind.
• Harvey Mudd: all residents must be checked out by 8:00 a.m. Monday, May 17.
• Pitzer: residences close at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15 for everyone except graduating seniors, who have until noon Sunday, May 16. Late stay students must be off campus by Wednesday, May 19. Residence Life expects rooms left in move in condition: trash emptied into the dumpsters, floors vacuumed or mopped, decorations and adhesives removed and bed frames put back together. Students can be charged for damage, extra cleaning, missing furniture or skipped steps.
• CMC: residence halls and apartments close at noon Sunday, May 16.
• Scripps: housing closes Saturday, May 15 for non graduating students. The date for graduates is still listed as TBA. In 2026, halls closed at noon May 16 for non graduating students and May 17 for graduates.

Donations, storage and shipping

Pomona runs a spring donation drive. Its ReCoop collected books, clothing, furniture and electronics May 13 to 17 last year.

CMC says students may not store their belongings on campus over the summer, and Pomona offers no summer storage of its own. Pomona's housing page points families to local self storage. Shipping is the other route: Pomona's mailroom handles USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL, and Claremont Village has a UPS Store on Indian Hill Boulevard. Over the summer, Mudd's mailroom forwards only USPS and UPS packages, through Aug 1, and returns packages from carriers that do not forward to the sender, so plan shipments around that.
