The dates everyone shares
Start your planning with four anchors that hold at Pomona, CMC, Harvey Mudd, Scripps and Pitzer alike. Fall classes begin Monday, Aug 31, 2026. Fall finals run Monday, Dec 14 to Friday, Dec 18. Spring classes begin Tuesday, Jan 19, 2027, right after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Spring finals run May 10 to 14.
The last day of class is where the colleges split. Pomona and Scripps end fall instruction on Wednesday, Dec 9 and give students reading days Dec 10 to 11. Harvey Mudd's calendar lists Friday, Dec 11 as the last day of classes at HMC, CMC and Pitzer. In spring, Pomona, CMC, Scripps and Pitzer end classes May 5, while Mudd finishes April 30 and holds Presentation Days May 3 to 5.
Breaks, college by college
Fall break. Pomona and Scripps take Monday, Oct 19 and Tuesday, Oct 20. CMC and Pitzer list Saturday, Oct 17 to Tuesday, Oct 20. At Mudd the break starts after Friday's last class on Oct 16 and ends at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct 21.
Thanksgiving. Pomona and Pitzer list Wednesday, Nov 25 to Friday, Nov 27, while CMC and Scripps list Nov 25 to 29. Mudd's recess begins after the last class on Tuesday, Nov 24, a day earlier than the others.
Spring break. Every college breaks the week of March 15. CMC's runs Saturday, Mar 13 to Sunday, Mar 21, and Mudd's begins after classes Friday, Mar 12 and ends at 8:00 a.m. Monday, Mar 22.
Winter break and the December flight home
Pomona and Pitzer close residence halls at noon on Saturday, Dec 19, CMC closes its halls at 10:00 a.m. that day and Mudd at 8:00 a.m. Since finals end Friday, Dec 18, the realistic window for a flight home is Friday evening or Saturday morning, and CMC and Mudd students need to be out early that morning. Halls reopen Jan 16 to 17 at Pomona and Jan 17 to 18 at CMC and Pitzer. For 2025 to 26, Scripps told students that all of its housing closed for winter with no winter housing available, so plan on the same unless Scripps posts otherwise.
Family weekends and when to book
- Pomona: Oct 23 to 24, 2026. Register by Oct 16.
- Pitzer: Nov 6 to 8, 2026, with the Harvest Festival. Online registration closes Oct 29, and Pitzer warns hotel availability may be limited.
- Harvey Mudd: Friday, Feb 5 to Saturday, Feb 6, 2027.
- CMC: Saturday, Feb 13 to Monday, Feb 15, 2027.
- Scripps: Feb 13 to 14, 2027. Scripps notes that Super Bowl LXI falls on Feb 14 and may affect airfare and flight availability, with heavier traffic expected at LAX and BUR.
For Mudd's February 2026 weekend, most of the group hotel rates had to be booked by early to mid January, about three to four weeks ahead. Treat that as your latest booking date, not your target.
Commencement and closing day
CMC, Scripps and Pitzer hold commencement on Saturday, May 15, 2027, and Pomona and Harvey Mudd on Sunday, May 16. All five colleges graduate within two days, so expect a crowded weekend in town.
Closing times differ, and some colleges split them by class year. Pitzer residences close at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 for everyone except graduating seniors, who have until noon on Sunday, May 16. Scripps housing closes May 15 for non graduating students, and the date for graduates is still listed as TBA. CMC halls and apartments close at noon on Sunday, May 16. Pomona (noon) and Mudd (8:00 a.m.) close on Monday, May 17.
Always double check
