How the ASU calendar is built
The University Registrar publishes the official calendar. Every semester has three sessions: Session A covers the first half, Session B the second half, and Session C the whole term. In fall 2026, Session A ends Oct 9 and Session B starts Oct 14. If your student says a class "already finished" in October, it was a Session A course. Final exams are scheduled for Session C.

Thanksgiving is two days, not a week
The registrar lists only Thursday and Friday, Nov 26 and 27, as the holiday. Monday through Wednesday are regular class days on that calendar. Before booking a flight that leaves on the weekend before, ask your student what their professors expect that week.
Family Weekend timing
ASU Family set three deadlines for 2026. Discounted hotel blocks at partner hotels last "until filled or October 7." Registration ($48 for guests, $27 for students, free under age 5) closes Sunday, Oct 18 at 11:59 p.m., after which a $10 per ticket late fee applies. Football tickets for the Colorado game on Nov 7 are bought separately from Sun Devil Athletics, with a discount code for registered families.
Winter break
The registrar lists only a two day holiday break, Dec 24 and 25, and no named winter break. Fall finals end Saturday, Dec 12 and spring classes begin Monday, Jan 11, which leaves about four weeks. The ASU holiday schedule closes the university Dec 24 and 25 and again on Jan 1. Housing says students with an active academic year license agreement are welcome to stay in the halls over the break.
Commencement on a Monday
Both 2026 to 27 commencement dates on the registrar calendar fall on a Monday: Dec 14 and May 10. The registrar gives the date only, so check graduation.asu.edu for ceremony times and locations before you lock in nonrefundable plans.
What to double check
- Your student's own final exam schedule. Housing asks residents to check out within 24 hours of their last final, which can be days before the end of finals week.
