If your student is sick

The Student Health Center is on the main floor of Maher Hall, Room 140, one building east of The Immaculata Church, with its entrance at the northwest corner of Maher. For fall 2026 it is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and closed weekends. Your student can book an in person or telehealth visit through the MyWellness Portal or call (619) 260-4595 during office hours. The center also handles prescriptions and health insurance questions.

When the center is closed, its Off Campus and After Hours Care page is the first stop. That page also covers TimelyCare for 24/7 virtual medical and mental health care, nurse advice lines and off campus pharmacy options. For a campus emergency, call Public Safety at (619) 260-2222; off campus, call 911.

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, at 4077 Fifth Avenue in Hillcrest, runs an emergency room open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is a Level I Trauma Center. Its main number is (619) 294-8111. For urgent care, Scripps Health lists a location at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines in La Jolla, open seven days a week. It is north of campus and not in USD's neighborhood, so check the Student Health Center's after hours page first.

Pharmacies

CVS has pharmacies near campus at 3245 Sports Arena Blvd in the Midway District and 1288 Camino del Rio N in Mission Valley. If your student's prescription is filled at the Student Health Center, ask whether a refill can be sent to one of these when the center is closed.

Mental health

The USD Counseling Center is at (619) 260-4655, and a counselor on call answers that same number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The San Diego Access and Crisis Line, 1-888-724-7240, is another round the clock option.

Campus safety

The Department of Public Safety is staffed 24/7. Save the non emergency number, (619) 260-7777, and the emergency line, (619) 260-2222, in your own phone as well as your student's. Public Safety also offers safety escorts from dusk till dawn: your student can call (619) 260-7777 and an escort will accompany them to an on campus location or anywhere within a one mile radius of campus. General questions go to publicsafety@sandiego.edu, and current safety notices are posted on Public Safety's alerts page.

Mail and packages

The USD Mail Center ((619) 260-2204, mailcenter@sandiego.edu) handles incoming and outgoing packages and runs a copy center. Its FAQ gives the address format for students: your student's first and last name, then 5998 Alcalá Park Unit #, San Diego, CA 92110. The unit number is your student's first initial, last initial and the last three digits of their USD ID number, so confirm it with your student before you ship anything. Couriers cannot deliver to residence hall rooms, there are no courier deliveries to campus on weekends, and the Mail Center emails your student when a package arrives.

Groceries and everyday needs

For a full grocery run, Vons has stores at 3645 Midway Dr (92110) and 5555 Balboa Ave (92111). Both are a drive or bus ride from the mesa. The Campus Card, meal plans and dining are run by Auxiliary Services at (619) 260-8880.

Care packages

Time a December care package to arrive before finals week ends on December 18, since your student may leave campus within 24 hours of their last exam. In spring, finals run May 13 to 19, and the same timing applies.
