USD routes most family questions through a few offices: Parent and Family Relations, Residential Life, the Torero Hub and the Student Health Center. Here is who handles what.

Dates and breaks

When is USD Homecoming and Family Weekend in 2026?

Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18, 2026. The Parent Advisory Board's Evening Under the Stars fundraiser is on Friday, October 16.

Does USD have a fall break?

The 2026 to 27 undergraduate calendar lists no fall break. The days off in fall are Labor Day (September 7) and Thanksgiving, with no classes November 25 to 27.

When is USD spring break in 2027?

Easter and spring break runs Monday, March 22 to Monday, March 29, 2027, with no classes. Check break housing with Residential Life before planning for your student to stay on campus.

When is USD commencement in 2027?

The Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies are Sunday, May 23, 2027. The Mid Year Graduation Celebration (Mass and Reception) for December graduates is Friday, December 11, 2026.

When should my student fly home for winter break?

Fall finals run December 14 to 18, 2026, and the housing terms require residents to leave 24 hours after their last exam or by noon on Saturday, December 19, whichever comes first. Book after you know your student's last exam time.

Travel and where to stay

What is the closest airport to the University of San Diego?

San Diego International Airport (SAN). USD's Visit Campus page says campus is about a 10 minute ride from the airport, and a taxi or ride share should cost approximately $20.

How do I get from the San Diego airport to USD without a car?

Take the free San Diego Flyer shuttle from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 to Old Town Transit Center. From there, USD's free tram runs to campus about every half hour, and MTS bus 44 serves USD every 15 to 20 minutes.

Where do parents park at USD, and how much does it cost?

Visitors can use the Main Parking Structure, West Parking Structure and several surface lots. A full day costs $21, or $18 in the West and Manchester areas, paid at pay stations or through ParkMobile.

Are there hotel discounts for USD families?

Yes. USD's Hotel Partners page lists Bartell Hotels preferred rates for students, parents, alumni, family and friends, plus a 12% rate at the Hilton Garden Inn that USD calls the closest hotel to campus.

Move in and move out

When do USD students have to move out in May 2027?

Within 24 hours of their last final exam or by noon on Thursday, May 20, 2027, whichever comes first. Manchester Village and Pacific Ridge upper class residents also have a noon May 20 end date.

Can my student stay in the dorms over winter break?

The housing terms say residence halls close for winter break and Intersession, except Manchester Village and Pacific Ridge. First year residents need written approval from Residential Life to stay, hardship housing is $65 per night, and Intersession housing applications open in November.

What happens to things my student leaves behind?

The 2026 to 27 housing terms state that the university is not responsible for personal property left behind after a student leaves a room. Plan to ship, store or pack everything before checkout.

Health, safety and local life

What should my student do if they get sick after hours?

The Student Health Center in Maher Hall 140 is open weekdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. After hours, use its Off Campus and After Hours Care page; for a campus emergency call Public Safety at (619) 260-2222, and off campus call 911.

Is there mental health help for my student at night?

Yes. The USD Counseling Center has a counselor on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (619) 260-4655. In a mental health crisis your student can also call or text 988.

What address do I use to send a package to my student at USD?

Address it to your student's first and last name, then 5998 Alcalá Park Unit #, San Diego, CA 92110. USD's Mail Center FAQ says the unit number is your student's first initial, last initial and the last three digits of their USD ID number, so confirm it with your student. Couriers cannot deliver to residence hall rooms; the Mail Center emails your student when a package arrives. Questions go to mailcenter@sandiego.edu.

The Torero Hub handles financial aid, billing, registration and records at (619) 260-2700 or torerohub@sandiego.edu. Your student may need to grant you access before staff can discuss their account.

Most questions have a clear home at USD. Here is where to start, with contact details from USD's own pages.

Office of Parent and Family Relations

(619) 260-4808, parents@sandiego.edu. Your general liaison when you do not know who handles something, plus family events like Homecoming and Family Weekend and the Grandparents and Family Spring Weekend.

Residential Life

(619) 260-4777, housing@sandiego.edu. Student housing and roommate issues, plus move in and move out, break and summer housing, and the housing terms.

Torero Hub

(619) 260-2700, torerohub@sandiego.edu. Financial aid, billing and payments, registration, adding and dropping classes, and student records. Parents and supporters who have been given access can use the Hub's authorized user question form. Student records are covered by FERPA, so your student may need to grant you access first.

Student Health Center

(619) 260-4595, usdhealthcenter@sandiego.edu. Appointments, prescriptions and health insurance questions. Maher Hall, Room 140, open weekdays.

Counseling Center

(619) 260-4655, with a counselor on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the same number. The San Diego Access and Crisis Line, 1-888-724-7240, also offers 24 hour crisis help. The Center for Health and Wellness Promotion, (619) 260-4618, chwp@sandiego.edu, lists mental health counseling and health and wellness resources on campus.

Department of Public Safety

Non emergency (619) 260-7777, emergency (619) 260-2222, publicsafety@sandiego.edu. Staffed 24/7 for safety questions and concerns, and the non emergency number also arranges safety escorts from dusk till dawn.

A note on privacy: student records are protected by FERPA, and offices like the Torero Hub need your student to grant you access before they can discuss them. Set that up with your student before you need it.
