For after hours care, PLNU points students with cuts, sprains, earaches, fever, or rashes to urgent care. The emergency rooms on PLNU's list include Scripps Mercy at 4077 5th Avenue, Sharp Coronado at 250 Prospect Place, Sharp Memorial at 7901 Frost Street, Scripps Memorial La Jolla, and Kaiser on Zion Avenue. Insurance shapes the choice: PLNU notes that HMO plans require designated providers, PPO plans can use any facility except Kaiser, and Kaiser members should use Kaiser.

Counseling

Student Success and Wellness Counseling Services is part of the Wellness Center, at (619) 849-2574. It is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed 12:30 to 1:30, and offers brief therapy of about six to eight sessions, with referrals to community providers for longer needs. Pharmacies

The Wellness Center offers some medications at low cost. For prescriptions from outside providers, there is a CVS at 3950 W Point Loma Blvd, (619) 523-1440, and another at 3327 Rosecrans St, (619) 225-9691, which also has a MinuteClinic on weekdays. Both pharmacy counters close for lunch from 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Public Safety and alerts

The Department of Public Safety sits on Lomaland Drive just west of Sator Hall and is available 24 hours a day at (619) 849-2525. Office hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed during chapel. PLNU sends emergency texts and emails through Rave Alert, and parents can sign up at getrave.com/login/plnucommunity. The Public Safety site does not describe a walking escort program, so if your student wants company crossing campus late, DPS is who to ask.

Mail and packages

Use your student's full name, not a nickname, in this format:

John L Smith 3900 Lomaland Dr. San Diego, CA 92106

A hall or room number helps but is not required, according to Housing. Packages are picked up at the Cabrillo Annex behind Cabrillo Hall, Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., closed school holidays. Your student gets an email when a package is logged and should wait an hour before walking over. Questions go to (619) 849-2299 or mailservices@pointloma.edu.

Groceries and errands

PLNU's own guide for freshmen names Trader Joe's and Jensen's as grocery stops. The Point Loma Trader Joe's at 2401 Truxtun Rd is open daily 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Ralphs at 1666 Rosecrans St keeps long hours, 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. On the days it runs, the free PLNU shuttle also stops at Target and Liberty Station.

Money

We did not find an on campus bank branch on PLNU's pages, so plan on your student using their own bank's app. For the student account itself, Student Financial Services in Draper Hall handles bills, payment plans, and financial aid at (619) 849-2538 or sfs@pointloma.edu. Bills post in Workday, and the spring 2027 bill is due Jan 5.

Care packages

Ship with tracking, especially for anything valuable, and skip move in week entirely. Boxes timed for finals week (Dec 14 to 18 or May 3 to 7) land when students need them most, but keep the short Saturday pickup window in mind and aim for a weekday arrival.
