Pepperdine Health, Safety and Local Resources for Parents

Pepperdine's Student Health Center, in the Student Assistance Center, offers nearly all services at no charge on weekdays, and TimelyCare covers nights and weekends virtually. Malibu has two walk in clinics near campus, and the emergency rooms on the health center's list are through Malibu Canyon or down the coast in Santa Monica.

If your student is sick

The Student Health Center is in the Student Assistance Center (SAC), which has its own shuttle stop. It is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, at 310.506.4316. Nearly all services are free to enrolled students regardless of insurance, and staff accommodate walk ins even though appointments are preferred. The center keeps common medications on site and sends prescriptions for anything else to local pharmacies.

The university requires students to carry US based health insurance. Your student must sign a Release of Information Form at the clinic before staff can discuss a visit with you; without it, they cannot even confirm an appointment.

Nights and weekends

TimelyCare gives Pepperdine students free 24/7 virtual medical care at 833.4.TIMELY. For an emergency, call 911; on campus, follow up with Public Safety at 310.506.4441.

Emergency rooms

The health center sorts ERs by direction. Through Malibu Canyon: Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills (818.719.2000), Los Robles Regional Medical Center (805.497.2727) and West Hills Hospital (818.676.4000). Down the coast in Santa Monica: Providence Saint John's Health Center (310.829.8618) and the UCLA Medical Center emergency room (424.259.8400).

Pharmacies

Seaver's parent FAQ names two local pharmacies: CVS (310.456.9645) in Malibu Colony Plaza at 23841 Malibu Road, and Super Care Pharmacy (310.456.9059).

Safety on campus

The Department of Public Safety works from the first floor of the Center for Communication and Business building, below where Seaver Drive meets President's Drive. The non emergency line is 310.506.4442. Late at night, when campus shuttles stop running, students can call extension 4442 for a security escort. The LiveSafe app adds SafeWalk, which lets friends and family virtually follow a student's walk home.

Emergency alerts go out through the Everbridge system by email, voice call and text. They reach your student only if the contact details in WaveNet are current. During wildfires, Pepperdine's plan is to shelter in place on campus until authorities say it is safe.

In an emergency call 911. The Pepperdine Counseling Center, 310.506.4210, offers counseling to students at no charge, and the same number reaches an on call counselor 24/7 in a crisis.

Mail and packages

Seaver students in most halls use this format:

Student Name
24255-17 Pacific Coast Hwy # [four digit box number]
Malibu, CA 90263

Drescher and George Page residents use 24255 Pacific Coast Hwy, without the 17, plus the box number. Mailboxes are on the second floor of the Tyler Campus Center, one floor above the Seaver Bookstore, open 6 am to midnight. Packages wait at Mail Services on the Facilities Pad for pickup Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Mail Services: 310.506.4293 or mail.services@pepperdine.edu.

Groceries and errands

Pepperdine's practical stops list for parents points to Ralphs in Malibu Colony Plaza, south of campus on Pacific Coast Highway, and Pacific Coast Greens at 22601 Pacific Coast Highway (310.456.0353). For bulk runs, Costco in Agoura Hills is about 15 miles away.

Banking

Pepperdine's 2024 to 25 international student arrival guide describes a single campus ATM, run by University Credit Union, beside the second floor entrance of the Thornton Administrative Center. Have your student confirm it is still there before counting on cash.

Care packages

Boxes are held at the Facilities Pad rather than brought to rooms, so a quick text that one is on the way saves your student a wasted trip. Weekday pickup ends at 5 pm.
