If your student is sick

The Canyon Health and Wellness Clinic is in Papago Apartments North (Building 47). It is open Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 5:30 pm, with shorter hours (8 am to 4 pm) in summer and over school breaks, and it is closed weekends and school holidays. Call (602) 639-6215 or email campushealth@gcu.edu. Walk ins are welcome. Physicians and nurse practitioners there offer primary care, lab testing and screenings, women's health and X rays, and they can prescribe medications.

After hours and on weekends, your student can call the clinic's nurse advice line at (877) 602-7217. For an emergency, the clinic says to dial 911 and then notify GCU Public Safety.

Urgent care. The clinic's Emergency and After Hours page lists Alliance Urgent Care at 3502 W. Camelback Road (Monday to Thursday only) and AlphaMed Biltmore at 1743 E. Camelback Road, open weekdays 8 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm. Call ahead, since GCU's older community sheet lists a second Alliance address.

Emergency rooms. Hospitals the clinic lists as open 24 hours include Abrazo Central Hospital (2000 W. Bethany Home Road), St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center (350 W. Thomas Road), Banner University Medical Center (1111 E. McDowell Road) and HonorHealth John C. Lincoln Medical Center (250 E. Dunlap Ave.).

Pharmacies

GCU's community resources sheet lists CVS at 3440 W. Glendale Ave., Walgreens at 4249 W. Glendale Ave. and another CVS at 4040 N. 19th Ave. If your student fills prescriptions away from home, have them move the prescription before they run out.

Counseling and support

The Office of Student Care is GCU's counseling center, on the second floor of the Student Life Building (Building 26), open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, at (602) 639-7007. Short term counseling is free for traditional full time students living on campus, and the office also runs group counseling and crisis intervention. After hours it points students to 911 or Public Safety, 988, the EMPACT line at (480) 736-4950 and the 24/7 Warm Line at (602) 347-1100. Student Care's parent page adds that if you think your student is in danger or may harm themselves or someone else, you can start a wellness check by calling Public Safety at (602) 639-8100.
