GCU Important Dates 2026 to 27 for Parents
GCU's traditional campus runs a fall and a spring semester: fall classes go from Sept 8 to Dec 18, 2026 and spring classes from Jan 4 to April 23, 2027. The dates most parents plan travel around are Family Weekend on Oct 9 to 10, the Dec 20 housing closure and the two commencement weeks.

Two semesters and a short winter break
The dates below come from GCU's printable 2026 to 2027 University Calendar and its academic calendar page. The calendar lists online college commencements separately (week of April 26, 2027), so if you find a different date elsewhere on GCU's site, check which program it is for.
Fall runs Sept 8 to Dec 20 and spring runs Jan 4 to April 25. In between sits Christmas break, Dec 21 to Jan 3, and spring move in is Sunday, Jan 3, the day before classes. Student housing is closed over the break, so if your student flies home, plan the return flight around move in day.
Thanksgiving week has a twist
The official holiday is Thursday and Friday, Nov 26 and 27. Before that, Nov 23 to 25, instruction moves online. That can look like a chance to bring your student home the weekend before, but the calendar warns that some courses, including nursing, sciences and engineering, still meet in person those days, and faculty will let students know. Have your student check every class before you buy a Saturday flight.

What about finals?
GCU's University Calendar does not list a separate finals week for the traditional campus. It gives the last day of in person instruction (Dec 18 in fall, April 23 in spring) and the end of each term (Dec 20 and April 25). Because housing closes on Dec 20, ask your student for the date of their last exam or project before you book a December flight.
Spring 2027
- Move in: Sunday, Jan 3. Classes start Monday, Jan 4.
- Holidays: Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan 18 and Presidents Day on Feb 15.
- Spring break: March 15 to 21. Good Friday, March 26, is also on the holiday list.
- Last day of face to face instruction: Friday, April 23. The term ends April 25.
- Traditional commencement: the calendar lists the week of April 19, 2027. GCU's commencement site says spring ceremony details will be announced shortly after the winter 2026 ceremonies.
- Move out deadline: Monday, April 26.
Booking ahead
For commencement, each registered graduate can reserve up to six guest tickets, and graduates get an email with instructions three weeks after the registration deadline. Ceremonies are also livestreamed for relatives who cannot travel. Rise Uptown, the hotel Welcome Programs lists as a partner, says of its GCU parent rate that the earlier you book, the more you save.
What to double check
The calendar PDF's file name marks it as version 1, so revisit the academic calendar page before you buy anything nonrefundable. Spring ceremony details are still to be announced, and Thanksgiving week attendance depends on each course.
