Move in day, step by step

New students arrived on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, the opening day of orientation week. New Student Orientation lays out the day like this.

1. Check in first. Your student goes to the ERAU Check In area to pick up orientation materials and residence hall keys.
2. Unload, then move the car. After you unload, the car goes to Lots B to F so the close spots stay open for the next family.
3. Use the help. Move In Support Tents are staffed by Housing and Residence Life, orientation leaders and volunteers, with dollies, move in bins, bottled water and directions.
4. Ride back from the lots. Free shuttles run about every 15 minutes between the Bookstore roundabout, the spot between Lots B and C, T2 and Mingus Hall 3.

Running late? Between 4pm and 7pm, go to the Housing and Residence Life office in T2. After 7pm, call the HRL After Hours Help Line at (928) 777-3790. If your student is keeping a car on campus, buy the parking pass ahead of time through Campus Safety on ERNIE.

What the room includes

Housing describes a standard room as a bed, desk, chair and dresser. In Mingus Mountain, the Village Complex and Thumb Butte, beds are lofted with a large desk underneath, so your student may not need extra under bed storage. Bathroom sharing varies by hall: about six residents per two bathrooms in Mingus Mountain, two to three per bathroom in the Thumb Butte Modulars, five per bathroom in the T2 suites, and four per bathroom in the Village Suites and apartments.

Leave these at home

Housing lists halogen lamps, satellite dishes, cooking appliances with exposed heating elements, anything with an open flame, and refrigerators over 4.0 cubic feet that are not university provided. Move out

According to Housing, residence halls close at 12pm (noon) on Sunday, May 9, 2027, for students without a completed Summer A housing contract. Finals end Thursday, May 6, and commencement is Saturday, May 8, so graduating seniors have a tight window between the ceremony and checkout.

Housing had not posted December closing details when we checked. Checkout steps and what happens to belongings left in a room were not on the public pages either, so email prhouse@erau.edu if you are planning a pickup.

If your student is coming back next year, keep the spring housing timeline in mind: returning student contracts open March 1 to 5 and close March 21, roommate selection runs March 23 to April 4, and room selection is April 6 to 11.

Storage and shipping options

The public housing pages do not describe a university storage program, so most families weigh three routes.

1. Ship it home. USPS, UPS and FedEx all serve Prescott. Boxes are easier to manage than extra checked bags when your student is flying out of Sky Harbor.
2. Rent a self storage unit. Prescott and Prescott Valley have self storage facilities that rent by the month. Ask about student terms, access hours and whether you need your own lock.
3. Leave it with a local friend. Some students share a car load with a friend who lives in Arizona.

Whichever you choose, book it before finals week, when everyone else is trying to do the same thing.
