If your student is sick

Your student books visits through the Health and Counseling Portal or by calling (805) 756-1211.

That same number reaches an after hours advice nurse. The health center's after hours page lists these urgent cares in San Luis Obispo:

Counseling and Psychological Services, part of Campus Health and Wellbeing, is at (805) 756-2511. Drop in hours run weekdays, and pressing option 2 reaches crisis support at any hour.

Pharmacies

The Cal Poly Pharmacy inside Building 27 fills prescriptions for enrolled students and can take a transfer from your home pharmacy; call (805) 756-5260. It does not bill insurance and does not dispense Schedule II medications, so a student who takes one of those will need an off campus pharmacy. Downtown, CVS is at 717 Marsh St, (805) 547-9888.

Campus police and safety

University Police is in Building 36 at 1 Grand Ave. The non emergency line is (805) 756-2281.

After dark, the free Mustang Shuttle runs a night route from 6pm to 12:30am, seven days a week, with stops including the Recreation Center, the library and the University Union. Riders show a Cal Poly ID. It does not run during academic breaks.

Parents can get PolyAlert emergency texts too. Text CPSupporters to 226787; the subscription lasts 365 days. Visitors can text CPVisitors for 60 days of alerts. During a campus emergency, an information line opens at (805) 756-7777.

Mail and packages

Each student gets a personal campus mailing address from Distribution Services before school starts. Housing is clear that this is not the building address, and mail sent to a building address is returned. Ask your student for the exact address and use it every time.

Packages go to one of three centers depending on where your student lives: Canyon Post for PCV and Cerro Vista, Pacheco Post for Sierra Madre, yakʔitʸutʸu and Yosemite, and the Sequoia Package Center for Fremont, Muir, Santa Lucia, Sequoia, Tenaya, Trinity and the North Mountain halls. Students wait for an email before picking up. Mail Services asks families not to use same day or direct from store delivery, since those items often arrive without a proper address. Email packagecenter@calpoly.edu with questions, since phones get backed up.

Groceries and everyday supplies

Hilltop, a grocery in Poly Canyon Village run by Campus Dining, carries fresh produce, deli meats, toiletries and dry goods. The University Union has the UU Market. The Cal Poly Food Pantry is there for students who are stretched.

Banking

SESLOC has a location inside the University Union.

Care packages

Address the box to your student's campus mailing address, never the hall's street address. Avoid timing a box to arrive right before Fall Break or the noon Dec. 19 move out, since it could sit at the package center while your student is away.
